The Global Index Insurance Facility (GIIF) is excited to announce the launch of our latest eLearning modules: Technical Design and Premium Calculations for Crop Climate Insurances, designed to take your understanding of climate insurance to the next level. Building on our foundational Introduction to Index Insurance course, these new modules focus on the intricate details of calculating premiums for climate insurance contracts. Available on the OLC platform in both English and French, this advanced series offers a valuable opportunity for continued learning and skill enhancement.

What’s New in the Advanced Series?

Our new course, How to Calculate Premiums for a Climate Insurance Contract, is structured into four comprehensive modules. It’s tailored for individuals who already have a basic knowledge of Excel and are comfortable with elementary mathematical concepts. While the mathematical requirements don’t exceed high school level, the depth and application of the concepts are aligned with university standards.

This advanced series guides you through the practical aspects of data handling and risk assessment in index insurance. You’ll learn how to use Excel as a mini-database, particularly useful for managing and analyzing rainfall data over several years. The course walks you through creating an Excel sheet to calculate claim payments under a typical climate insurance contract, progressing through various levels of complexity.

Key Learning Outcomes

By engaging with these modules, you’ll gain:
