On October 14, 2024, a private IFC-led session will take place at the AIO Reinsurance Forum in Cairo, Egypt, bringing together prominent leaders in insurance, finance, and regulation to tackle critical challenges in Africa’s agricultural sector. Titled "The Role of Insurance in Advancing Financial Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security in Africa," this event will focus on the crucial role of insurance and innovative financial solutions in supporting food security and resilience-building across the continent.

Moderated by Florence Boupda, IFC's Global Banking and Insurance Manager, the panel will include Dr. Islam Azzam, Vice Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority of Egypt; Dr. Corneille Karekezi, CEO of Africa Re; and Benjamin Kamanga, Director of Public Sector & Inclusive Solutions at ZEP-RE. Additionally, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Chair of the GFANZ Africa Network, will offer valuable insights on collaborative approaches to climate resilience, while Patty Karuaihe-Martin, President of the AIO, will emphasize the importance of partnerships in strengthening smallholder farming across Africa.

The session aims to conclude with a collective call to action, encouraging new partnerships and committed efforts to support the resilience of smallholder farmers and agri-SMEs. This timely discussion will contribute to shaping a sustainable and secure agricultural future for Africa.
