GIIF organized an agriculture Insuretech innovation challenge/competition as a part of an Insuretech fair, hosted in Mumbai, India in July 2019. Through this innovation fair, the GIIF aims at improving the understanding of Insuretech, supporting the integration of different technology solutions with agriculture insurance, and applying innovation with actual programs on the ground. The Awards recognized some of South and South-East Asia and Pacific's most promising entrepreneurs who are using technology to address challenges in providing agricultural insurance to farmers. The African Federation of Insurance Companies (La Fédération des Sociétés d'Assurances de Droit National Africaines - FANAF) held its 44th Annual General Assembly in Libreville, Gabon, between February 17-20, 2020. This year’s high-level event provided a platform to approx. 1100 participants from (re) insurance companies, regulators, brokers, financial institutions to discuss the development of the sector in the continent in general, and their main challenges in operations, in particular. The event is also recognized internationally and praised for its technical panels on innovation

Green Delta Insurance Company, in cooperation with GIIF and IFC, pioneered weather index insurance in Bangladesh with an aim to mitigate farmers’ risks and losses associated with uncertain weather changes. This video summarizes key elements of the index product and its benefits to farmers combat climate risks.

Green Delta Insurance Company, in cooperation with GIIF and IFC, pioneered agriculture insurance in Bangladesh with an aim to mitigate farmers’ risks and losses associated with uncertain weather changes. Before the launch of the agri-insurance on 8th December 2018, pilot projects in 8 districts were run across Bangladesh for last 3 years, with the support of Business Finance for Poor-Bangladesh (BFP-B) Challenge Fund & Agriculture Value Chain Project of USAID. The video features a short documentary of one such pilot project conducted at Chitolmari village of Bagerhat District.

Mayfair Insurance, a GIIF Partner, has produced a video for awareness raising on index insurance during last season (2018).

The video discusses the development of weather index insurance in Senegal, including GIIF's and stakeholders' actions and involvement with index insurance in the country since its onset in 2009. The video is in French.

In December 2017, participants from various African Francophone nations attended a regional workshop held in Saly, Senegal, to learn about index insurance fundamentals and risk transfer process as well as to discuss and apply the use of agro-climactic data to the design of index insurance products. GIIF staff and participants discuss the importance of capacity training on index insurance in this video.

Supported by the Global Index Insurance Facility (GIIF), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) works with Green Delta Insurance to design and retail weather index insurance products that protect smallholder farmers and agribusinesses from climate risks. Access to finance provides a means for the farmers to sustain income and food security.
